MEMBERSHIP OF CIVIC BAND
INCREASE REPORTED Although the activities of the band had continued to be somewhat curtailed because of the war the year had been a satisfactory one, stated the report presented at the annual meeting of the Invercargill Civic Band Society last night. However, the membership had been increased by the promotion of junior members to the senior band and by the return of former members from the forces and it was expected that the coming year would show an improvement in that respect. The society could be proud of the fact that the band had not yet failed to fulfil an engagement. Increased revenue had been earned from engagements during the year and associate members had given generous support, stated the report. Another amount had been invested with the Southland Building Society, making a total of £207/9/5. The credit balance at the end of the year was £3l/12/11, compared with a balance of £5/13/7 for the previous year. Reference was made to the death of Mr John ‘ Bassett. He had given long and valued service in the interests of the band.
