NAZI FACTORIES RAIDED

FORCES OF AMERICAN BOMBERS (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, April 9. Strong forces of American bombers, escorted by fighters, today bombed aircraft factories at Tuton, Warnemunde, Marienburg and Posen. The attack on Posen necessitated a flight of 1500 miles, which is the longest distance American raiders have covered in daylight. Tuton is 35 miles east of Rostock. The British United Press aviation correspondent says that 700 American bombers, escorted by nearly 1000 fighters, carried out today’s raids. Tuton, Warnemunde . and Marienburg have all been previously attacked. Marienburg had one of Germany’s biggest fighter plants, where 50 per cent, of the Focke-Wulf 110’s were assembled. Warnemunde had a' large Heinkel factory. Berlin radio stated that fairly strong formations of escorted bombers which crossed the North and Baltic Seas were fiercely engaged over the Kiel Bight today. Combats also ensued over Mecklemburg and Pomerania, where bombs were dropped. The American air crews says that the bombing was extraordinarily accurate. They left enormous fires raging and there were enormous columns of smoke. Ibis was the first time Allied bombs fell on Posen, in Poland, in daylight. Focke-Wulf factories are established there. The Swedish radio says that 10 American bombers have made forced landings in Sweden. The crews are safe. EVACUATION OF BERLIN Preparations By Goebbels (Rec. 8.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 9. The complete evacuation of Berlin has been prepared by Dr Josef Goebbels, Gauleiter of Berlin. Reporting this, the Stockholm correspondent of The Chicago Sun says: "This is what lies behind Goebbels’s appointment as sole administrator of Berlin. This new order makes Goebbels dictator of the capital and his first job is to reorganize the firefighters and rescue workers.” The correspondent adds that a certain amount of war production is still being carried on in Berlin, mostly by small workshops.
