GLADSTONE.— The monthly collection realized £29/7/-. A VENAL-NORTHEND.— The committee acknowledges with thanks a donation of £3O from Mrs B. B.’ Jones, Dee street. The monthly collection is not yet finalized. CENTRAL. — The monthly collection realized £29/5/-. The committee acknowledges a further donation of £5 from the Southland Girls’ High School. The relations’ afternoon, will be held on Tuesday, April 11, instead of Monday as usual. GEORGETOWN.— The . monthly meeting will be held on Monday, April 17. EAST INVERCARGILL.— The monthly collection realized £3l/7/9. The committee acknowledges the following donations. —Mrs Dunlop, £1; Mr Smith, £1; Anonymous, £1; Anonymous, 10/6; Mrs Lindsay, 10/-; Mrs Thomson, 10/-; Miss White, 10/-; Mrs Henderson, 8/-. RED CROSS 'NEWS The office of. the Red Cross Society situated in the H. and H. Motors’ Buildings, Don street, will be closed until Friday, April 14. Since the opening of the cafeteria hut, situated at Kew Hospital, 420 cups of tea have been served to soldiers attending for treatment. This is very much appreciated by the men who attend as out-patients. Committees have supplied home-made scones and cakes, and in addition two members are on duty daily to attend to the needs of the men. JUNIOR RED CROSS.— Last weekend, Mrs Robert Miller, Junior Red Cross Organizer for Southland visited Quarry Hills and reports that a most successful rally of J.R.C. members from Niagara and Quarry Hills Circles was held in the Niagara Hall. A special feature was the display of knitted goods for prisoners of war made by members of the Niagara Circle, and also knitted goods for refugee children and toys for orphanages by the Quarry Hills Circle. The Society congratulates the members for their enthusiasm and help. The Society wishes to acknowledge with thanks the following donations: “Anonymous,” Kelvin street, £l/6/0; Wairio School Children, £l/10/0. NORTH INVERCARGILL COMMITTEE. — There will be a meeting of members of this branch in the Holy Trinity S.S. Hall on Tuesday, April 11, at 2.30 p.rn. Joint Committee of the Order of St John and the N.Z. Red Cross Society.— The monthly meeting of this committee was held on Wednesday evening, April 5. It has been decided that the committee, as expending agents of the sick and wounded fund, will make their appeal during the months of August and September towards the year’s quota. The prisoner of war inquiry office situated in the Red Cross Society’s premises will be closed until Friday, April 14. Any urgent matters will be attended at telephone 1682. V.A.D. NOTES.— Owing to the Easter holidays there will not be a cookery class on Tuesday. On Wednesday, April 12 the home nursing class will be held at 7.30. p.m. The elementary home nursing examination will be held on Wednesday, May 3. Hygiene and Sanitation classes will begin earlv in May.
