QUOTA EXCEEDED BY £20,000
Southland’s National War Savings Record. The amount received in national war savings in Southland during the year ended March 31 was £181,755 or £20,035 in excess of the annual quota of the province of £161,720. Twelve of the 23 places in Southland, to which quotas have been allotted, reached!their quotas for the year. Edendale, Riverton, Tuatapere and Waikaka collected more than double their quotas. Last week was a particularly successful one for national savings in Southland. The amount invested was £12,393, the highest weekly figure yet recorded for the province. The towns that secured the best results last week were: Invercargill £10,407 (quota £1634), Gore £729 (£400), Mataura £2Bl (£108), Wyndham £260 (£63). Last week the following 18 places (the highest number yet recorded) reached their quotas: Invercargill, Arrowtown, Bluff, Edendale, Gore, Mataura, Nightcaps, Ohai, Orepuki, Queenstown, Riversdale, Riverton, Thombury, Tuatapere, Waikaia, Waikaka, Woodlands and Wyndham.
