FIGHTER-BOMBERS ATTACK ENEMY AIRFIELDS (United Press Association—Telegraph Copyright) (Rec. 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. The Alliet are completely masters of the air over Sicily. This is the outstanding feature of the fighting for the island over the last 12 hours. Fresh troops are still landing along the 150 miles of shore controlled by the Allies and great quantities of equipment and supplies are being unloaded. Allied bombers have made heavy attacks on enemy troops moving towards the eastern end of Sicily. Fighterbombers were particularly active yesterday. They attacked three aerodromes, causing severe damage, while heavy bombers attacked the communications centre of Catania.. During the day 45 enemy planes were shot down for the loss of nine Allied machines. Liberators made made a heavy attack on the aerodrome at Reggio di Calabria, starting fires among aircraft on the ground. It is reported that heavy fighting is going on for control of Ragusa, in the south-east of the island.
