Messrs G. Stevenson (Dacre), D. Brown (Drummond), B. Clearwater (Mokotua), C. J. Speight (Ohai) and A. L. Adamson will leave today for Wellington to attend the annual Dominion conference of the Farmers’ Union on Wednesday. Messrs W. Bell, L. W. Spencer, R. G. Webb, Mrs T. Noble and Miss R. Pope returned to Invercargill by the express last night after attending the divisional conference of the National Party at Dunedin as delegates for Invercargill. Members of the legal profession met in the Supreme Court at Dunedin recently to bid farewell to Mr A. E. Dobbie, who has returned to Invercargill after having acted as registrar of the Supreme Court at Dunedin for the last year. Mr C. J. L. White, president of the Otago Law Society, presented Mr Dobbie with a pair of fireside chairs and spoke of the able manner in which he had carried out his duties and of Ihe high regard in which he was held by the legal profession. Mr Dobbie expressed regret at leaving Dunedin where his stay, although brief, had been extremely happy. Mr L. V. Clark, who has been in the service of the Southland Hospital Board for nine years, and who is leaving to take up a position as assistant accountant to the Lower Hutt City Council, was honoured at a gathering of the board’s staff on Saturday. Mr fy. M. Williams, secretary of the board, presented Mr Clark with a revolving globe and book on behalf of the staff.

Mr A. Gordon, Dominion president of the New Zealand National Party, was a visitor to Dunedin during the week-end to attend the annual meeting of the Otago and Southland Division of the party held there on Saturday afternoon. A tribute to the memory of Mr William Baird, a former member and president of the Southland Rugby Union, who died recently, was paid by senior Rugby players and officials before the start of the trial game at Rugby Park on Saturday. The players and referee lined up on the field of play and stood with bowed heads for a short period.
