The list also includes Dominate, The Joker and Kindergarten. Flag Steeplechase at Winton The Birchwood Hunt will hold a flag steeplechase at Winton on Saturday. All profits will be given to the patriotic funds. True Range True Range, winner of a "double” at the Birchwood Hunt meeting at RakauhaUka on Saturday, is the Salmagundi-Direct Hit gelding which in two seasons of racing failed to win a race for W. E. Hazlett. Last season he was started seven times and was placed once—second in the Trial Handicap at the Southland winter meeting—and this season he had three races—in the Trial Handicap at Riverton, in the Southland Hurdles and in the Hack Steeplechase at Oamaru. Trophy For Rider Ashley Jenkins, rider bf Abbey Lu, winner of the Hawke’s Bay Steplechase. was presented with a gold-mounted whip for his success. Abbey Lu is a five-year-old gelding by Lurina from Abbey Chimes. One Winner

W. J. Broughton rode one winner at Hastings on Saturday and is now three points behind W. F. Ellis in the New Zealand jockeys’ premiership. Run Broken

Noko’s run of success was broken at Hastings, where he failed to give weight to Abbey Lu and Gar Vaals. Nevertheless his record of four wins and - third in his last five starts is a good one, and he will have plenty of supporters when he races next, probably at the South Canterbury Hunt meeting on July 24. On Saturday he earned £3O for his third placing afid took his winnings to £lO5O for the season. In three seasons he has won £2082/10/- in stakes and trophies.

Invercargill Trotting Club The annual meeting of the Invercargill Trotting Civ.’- will be held on July 30. The committee of the club decided to invest £250 in the third Liberty Loan and to donate £5O to the Southland provincial patriotic fund.

Captain W. Grieve was appointed to represent the club at the annual conference of the New Zealand Trotting Association on August 6.

Had Every Chance Anglo-Irish had every chance in the Hawke’s Bay arches, but was not good enough. The Dozer

The Dozer, who has been paid up for in the Wellington Steeplechase, was injured during the running of the Hawke’s Bay Hurdles on Saturday and is an unlikely starter at Trentham.

Inquiry "Interested.”—Winnings mean and include any stakes, moneys or prizes (whether in money or in the nature of trophies) actually credited to a winning horse.

Gone to Hastings The Battle Song yearling for which Mr P. Louis, Wellington, gave 900gns at the January sales, has gone to W. D. Young at Hastings to be trained. Young trains Flying Hawk for the same owner. Unlucky Centre Three of the five horses balloted out of the Whyte Handicap at Wellington are trained in Hastings—Boulder Dam, Indian Sport and Flying Hawk. Tha first two would have been among the favourites on the day.

Rchandicaps For Saturday Rehandicaps for the opening day of the Wellington Winter meeting are as follows:— Mariri Steeplechase: Abbey Lu 71b to 10.5; Woburn Handicap: Killeymoon 51b to 9.4; Trentham Hurdles: Talenta 61b to 10.1; Whyte Handicap: Noble Fox 21b to 8.11; Te Aro Handicap: Kinsman 71b to 9.12. A Late Withdrawal

Whackie’s jockey was weighed out and the horse was being saddled up by the trainer for the Rongotea Handicap at Awapuni when a message was received from the owner, Mr M. J. Moodabe, that he did not desire the horse to start.

Treasurer Treasurer had his first school over the big hurdles at Riccarton a few days ago. He rapped the first one, but that seemed to wake him up as he continued over three more at a sound pace, giving a brilliant exhibition of clean and fast jumping.

Idle Hour Idle Hour was not entered for the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase, but his turn canont be far away. Though still a maiden, he has finished second in the Egmont, Wanganui and Manawatu steeplechases which is encouraging form for a novice who is not yet truly seasoned. Idle Hour jumps well and has a good turn of speed and his future prospects, not necessarily this season, should be bright. He has been paid up for in the Mariri Steeplechase at Trentham on Saturday.
