INVALIDED HOME— Private E. E. Mackie, a son of Mr and Mrs A. Mackie, of Gore, who recently returned from overseas service, arrived at Gore by the midday express yesterday. A welcome was extended by the Mayor (Mr W. D. Shelton), by Mrs T. L. Macdonald on behalf of the Red'Cross Society and by Mr G. L. Gerken, on behalf of the Gore R.S.A. ROTARY CLUB— “Nursing as a career for girls” was the subject of an address given by Miss D. Buchanan, lady superintendent of the Southland Hospital, at yesterday’s meeting of the Gore Rotary Club. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Representatives of women’s organizations at Gore were present at the meeting. CHIMNEY FIRE—A call to a chimney fire at the home of Mrs T. Mitchell, Kitchener street, West Gore, was received by the Gore Fire Brigade yesterday morning. No damage was done. NATIONAL SAVlNGS— lnvestments in national savings at Gore last week totalled £3310/4/-. The quota for the town is £4OO a week.
