DEFENCE MINISTER IN CANADA
WELLINGTON, June 27. A message from a special correspondent at Ottawa on Saturday states that the New Zealand Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) has been greatly impressed with the new methods and ingenious apparatus installed in various Canadian stations established under the Air Training Plan. He has also been impressed by the high standard of accommodation and recreational facilities for trainees. He found that the station commanders are men of good type who show the keenest interest in the welfare of their pupils. Weather interfered with Mr Jones’s itinerary, but in the last seven days he covered almost 4000 miles by plane and visited nine widely separated centres at which there are New Zealanders. At one of these 210 men paraded. The commanding officers expressed the utmost satisfaction with the high standard reached by the New Zealand trainees. Mr Jones is continuing his tour and will visit other stations where New Zealanders are located.
