POLICE RAIDS ON CITY CLUBS

OVER 3000 BOTTLES OF BEER SEIZED Approximately 3250 bottles of beer have been seized by the Invercargill police in raids on city clubs in the last 10 days. Two sports clubs, with club rooms in Spey street and Yarrow street, were visited by the police 10 days ago, and 172 dozen bottles of “bottled” and “draught” beer (2064 bottles) were seized. The names of several men found on the premises at the time were taken by the police, and they will be charged with breaches of the Licensing regulations. On Friday afternoon the police visited two more clubs, one in Leven street, and one in Kelvin street, and they seized about 100 dozen bottles of beer. The names of men found on the premises were also taken. Two more clubs, one in Don street, and one in Forth street, were visited on Saturday morning, but in neither case did the police consider it necessary to take any action.
