ATTACK PRESSED HOME

Daring N.Z. Airmen

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, February 22. The Air Ministry quotes an exploit of Flight-Officers L. Dayman and S. T. Thompson, both of Wellington, as an example of the determined manner in which the Affifty Co-operation Command’s Mustang pilots press home their attacks against communications serving the occupying forces in the Low Countries and France. Flight-Officers Dayman and Thompson attacked a goods train in Holland. Flight-Officer Dayman went in first and Flight-Officer Thompson followed up closely at an interval of a mere fraction of a second. He was directly over the locomotive at a height of only a few feet when Flight-Officer Dayman’s bomb blew up the locomotive. A cloud of steam and debris enveloped Flight-Officer Thompson’s Mustang, but he safely returned to base despite damage, including a huge dent near the airscrew hub.
