Peace Offensive Towards Italy

(Rec. 9.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb 22 Evidence accumulates, says the United Press, that the United States is making a strong peace offensive towards Italy. Mr Roosevelt today conferred with high State Department officials and experts on world affairs, including the Vatican envoy, Mr Myron Taylor. The Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, said Mr Taylor’s presence did not necessarily indicate that Italy was discussed, as the conference was ot a general nature. The United Press adds: Another possible straw in the wind is Archbishop Spellman’s visit to the Vatican. The Pope today, gave an audience to Archbishop Spellman for the third time.
