Mr A. E. Hefford, chief inspector of fisheries, who has been on a departmental visit to Southland, will leave for Christchurch by the express today. Flight-Lieutenant A. E. W. McDonald, formerly of Invercargill, has been promoted to the rank of squadron leader. Squadron Leader McDonald is chief of ground instruction at a northern air station. Congratulations were offered to Cr T. Pryde at the meeting of the City Council last night on the award of the M.B.E. conferred on his son, Major N. M. Pryde. Messrs J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., J. Price and H. Hodgson, members of the No. 6 Armed Forces Appeal Board, and Mr A. N. Haggitt, Crown representative at the board’s sittings, returned to Dunedin by the midday express yesterday after holding a sitting of the board in Invercargill. Mr J. Harry, caretaker at the Civic Theatre, has resigned his position to accept a position in Nelson. The resignation was accepted by the City Council at its meeting last night.
