SITTING OF NO. 6 APPEAL BOARD
The Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board, formerly the Southland Man Power Committee, now has authority to hear the appeals of men called for general service. As a committee it dealt solely with the appeals of men called for territorial service. The enlargement of its authority does not, however, include appeals on conscientious grounds. These must be heard by a board presided over by a Magistrate, and this ex- ( plains the sitting held in Invercargill . yesterday by the No. 6 Armed Forces Appeal Board. Mr J. R. Bartholomew, i S.M., presided and with him were 1 Messrs J. Price and H. Hodgson. Mr A. : N. Haggitt. represented the Crown. The sitting was a short one, only 10 cases ■ being dealt with. All the appeals were ■ on conscientious grounds. Six of the ap- ! peals were allowed and four dismissed. ;
