CITY COUNCIL’S PRODUCE SCHEME

Five acres of potatoes have already been planted under the City Council’s produce scheme, and it is proposed to continue the planting of another 20 acres. This was reported to the council at its meeting last night by the officer in charge of the city’s reserves, Mr W. Stapleton. Mr Stapleton added that preparations were in hand for sowing oats. Parts of the produce area which were in a sodden condition last season had been tile drained. The Reserves Committee reported that the district employment officer had agreed to supply additional men for the produce scheme.
