FIFTH MINESWEEPER LAUNCHED

(PA.) WELLINGTON, September 27. The fifth of the minesweepers being built in New Zealand for the Royal New Zealand Navy and the Royal Navy was launched at Wellington yesterday, being named the Awatere by Mrs Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser). The Hon. D..G. Sullivan said the Awatere was the" second steel minesweeper launched in the Dominion. It had been so arranged that the production of six such vessels could proceed simultaneously. All were based on trawler design and were readily adaptable to peace-time activities. Other speakers were Mr Fraser, Mr W. H. Price, chairman of the Harbour Board and chairman of the company which constructed the minesweeper, the Maydr (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) and Mr McG. Jamieson, representing the construction contractors.
