GUN DOG TRIALS

BREED CHAMPIONSHIPS The Southland Gun Dog Club held its breed championships at West Plains on Saturday afternoon. In spite of unpleasant weather there was a fair attendance. Competition was keen and the standard of work vras high. The winner of the spaniel championship was W. M. Clouston’s springer spaniel Brackenfield Trex, handled by W. F. Clouston, while the retriever championship went to a Dunedin dog, A. McLeod’s Labrador, Nick, a regular competitor at championship trials In Southland. The judge of the breed championships was Mr J. R. O’Brien, while Mr J. B. Pasco judged the puppy and novice classes and Mr G. L. McKenzie, the limit class. Detailed results: PUPPY CLASS (land trial). —H. Broads s.s. Waltomo 93pts 1, J.
