POLITICAL UNITY

PARTY REPRESENTATIVES CONFER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. After discussions which have extended over nearly three weeks between the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, on the subject of political unity, a conference was held today having a wider basis of representation. In addition to Mr Fraser and Mr Holland there were present the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan and the Hon. F. Jones, all members of the War Cabinet, as well as two prominent members of the National Party and two from the industrial labour movement. The Hon. Adam Hamilton was out of Wellington. The conference continued this afternoon. No official statement was made at the luncheon adjournment, but it is understood that both parties expressed their views on the question of unity, which is apparently still an open one. A later report states that the parties met twice in the afternoon and again at night. Mr Fraser and Mr Holland both stated at the tea adjournment that progress had been made. Beyond that they had no statement to make.
