CHANGE-OF-AIR CAMP

SEASIDE REST FOR N.Z. TROOFS (Official War Correspondent N.Z.E.F.) (Rec. 10 p.m.) CAIRO, June 8. A change-of-air camp for troops of the New Zealand Division was opened in Syria this week. The Maori Battalion, now attached to our oldest brigade, was the first unit to spend a week of relaxation in the camp, which is designed to give our troops a complete rest from strenuous work in the ranges. Since they entered Syria most of the New Zealand troops have been working continuously in inland districts remote from towns of any size. As the summer heat increases camps that were under snow a few months ago are becoming dry and dusty. The week, which each battalion will spend in the change of air camp near a large coastal town, will provide an opportunity for leave, sport and sea bathing. The troops will be free from fatigues duties and will have only one morning parade daily. The camp is in a position similar to that of many New Zealand seaside resorts and is equipped with canteens and the best facilities for recreation.
