REPEATED NAZI ATTACKS FAIL (United Press - Association —Telegraph Copyright) (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, June 9. The chief fighting in the Libyan battle yesterday was round Bir Hacheim where the Free French are resisting gallantly. The Germans made repeated attacks with tanks and infantry, while artillery and dive bombers pounded the defenders. General Koenig’s men, however, threw back all the assaults. The repeated attempts made by the Germans to capture Bir Hacheim show what importance they attach to this stronghold. A fast moving British column operating to the west of the “Devil’s Cauldron” attacked enemy supply lines, inflicted damage and took a number of prisoners. There has been little activity in the Knightsbridge ■ area. The main German armoured force is holding a salient formed by a gap in the minefield. The British forces pivoted on Knightsbridge are stationed round the salient. Remorseless bombing of German supply lines by the Royal Air Force goes on all the time.
