COAL MINE WORKERS SEEK COMPENSATION

Two claims for compensation by coal mine workers were heard in the Compensation Court at Invercargill yesterday. Mr Justice O’Regan presided. His Honour reserved his decision in the case in which Richard Beveridge Cochrane (Mr G. J. Reed), a miner, of Invercargill, claimed £250 as compensation from the Birchwood Coal Company Ltd. (Mr L. F. Moller) for an Injury to his right eye received while working for the company. George Fearn, of Ohai, a coal mine trucker, sought £270/19/3 compensation from the Wairaki Coal Mine Company for an eye injury received when working for the defendant company. Mr Reed appeared for the plaintiff and Mr S. M. Macalister for the company. The case was adjourned to Dunedin for further medical evidence.
