NEW CLOSING TIMES FOR AIR MAILS
As the result of the elimination of Dunedin from the Dominion air services, changes have been made in the closing times for air mails dispatched from Invercargill. Formerly the mails closed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30 p.m. and were sent to Dunedin by the night goods trains, arriving there at about 7 a.m. the following day. The mail now closes at Invercargill at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday and from Monday to Friday at noon. The Sunday mail will be dispatched on the Sunday evening express, and during the week it will be sent north on the mid-day express. Under the new arrangements the air mail that leave's on Sunday night will arrive at Wellington the next day. This is still considerably faster than the ordinary surface mail which, if dispatched on Sunday night, does not arrive in Wellington until Wednesday. There is no one-day air service between Christchurch and Auckland, but it is possible to travel from Auckland to Christchurch in one day. The plane which leaves Christchurch will connect with the express leaving Wellington in the afternoon for Auckland.
