Mrs D. J. Cruickshank, Gore, is visiting Invercargill. . Mrs A. Maxwell, Herbert street, is visiting Mrs J. P. Bishop, Gore. Miss Joan Nelson, Mary street, has returned from a short visit to Dunedin. Mrs N. A. Fraser, Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs T. Lynch, Clyde Mrs J. A. Edwards, Otikerama, has returned from a visit to her daughter, Mrs Alan Scott, Dipton. . Nurse Jessie G. Fulton, of the Christchurch Public Hospital, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Kennedy, Fox street. . The wedding will take place in England on July 18 of Mr Alex Lindsay, son of Mr and Mrs S. A. Lindsay, Elies road, Invercargill, and Miss Wendy Heddon-Jones. Mr Lindsay is leader of the Memorial Theatre Orchestra at Stratford-on-Avon, and will be entering the Army in September. Miss Hed-don-Jones was a pupil at the same college and has her A.R.C.M. for piano and violin. . . Mrs E. M. Rose, Kennington, has been appointed assistant teacher at Surrey Park school.

Mrs Roy Wesney and her son Noel will arrive in Invercargill tonight from New Plymouth to stay with Mrs Wesney’s parents, Mr and Mrs D. Sloan, 396 Tay street, while Mr Wesney is in camp.

ST. CATHERINE’S BALL DEBUTANTES PRESENTED

Last night in St. Mary’s hall a very successful function was held when 24 debutantes were presented to the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Howard at the fourteenth annual ball to be held by the St. Catherine's Ex-Pupils’ Association Monsignor Howard was escorted to the stage by Mr James Robertson and associated with him were Mrs A. H. Fitzgerald, president of the association, Mrs W. Baird and Mrs A. S. Lindsay, the matrons of honour, and the DeputyMayor, Mr A. Wachner. and Mrs Wachner. The chaperones were Mesdames L. P. O’Gorman and P. J. O’Reilly.

After each girl had been presented she took her place on the stage, and the group, in traditional white, against the black and silver drape adorned with the school badge in silver, made an attractive picture. Bouquets were then presented to Mesdames Fitzgerald and Baird and a shoulder spray to Mrs Wachner. The debutantes were:—

Miss Ellie Hannan, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Hannan, Herbert street, wore a frock of white taffetas. The fitting bodice had short, puffed sleeves and the circular shirt was finished at the waistline with a taffeta bow.

Miss Mona Kasmussen, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F. E. Rasmussen, Crinan street, wore a frock of white satin trimmed with rucking on the bodice and short puffed sleeves.

Miss Doreen Drake, only daughter of Mrs W. Drake, Raymond street, chose an Empire frock of white taffetas, with rucked bodice, and full skirt. Miss Joyce Reid, daughter of Mrs M. A. Reid, Bowmont street, wore a frock of georgette over taffeta. The skirt was fully flared and the pleated bodice had a square neckline.

Miss Dorothy Windle, Riversdale, wore a frock of cream figured taffetas cut on classical lines. The scalloped neck-line was relieved with a spray of flowers. Miss Molly Canny, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Canny, Otatara, chose a frock of silk moire. The fitting bodice had a heartshaped neckline. Miss Dorothy Swain, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. M. Swain, Short street, wore a frock of white taffetas. The rucked bodice had a heart-shaped neckline finished with a diamante clip. Miss Joan Burke, a daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Burke, Eye street, wore a frock of white taffetas cut on simple lines. The bodice had a Peter Pan collar and short puffed sleeves. Miss Molly Windle, only daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Windle, Gore, chose a frock of white silk net over taffetas. The pleated bodice had long bishop sleeves and rosebuds trimmed the circular skirt. Miss Winifred Moynihan, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Moynihan, Northope, wore a frock of cream georgette trimmed with cream satin.

Miss Kathleen Mahoney, only daughter of Mrs I. E. Mahoney, Janet street, chose a frock of cream self-checked voile over taffetas. .The full circular skirt was trimmed with bands of narrow heliotrope ribbon. Miss Estelle Moylan, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Moylan, Lorn street, wore a frock of cream chiffon over satin. The skirt was rucked at the waistline and finished with a deep frill. Miss Valerio Dunn, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Dunn, chose a frock of cream slipper satin cut on Empire lines. The softly gathered bodice had a yoke of cream georgette finished with a narrow pleating. Miss Kathleen Crosble, daughter of Mrs C. Crosbie, Mossbum, wore a frock of white georgette over taffetas. The full bodice was gathered at the walst-llne and the skirt was gored. Miss Daphne Campbell, daughter of Mrs M. Campbell, Pomona street, chose a frock of ivory taffetas. The skirt was fully flared and the bodice trimmed with a Peter Pan collar was shirred at the shoulders and waist.

Miss Stella McCormick, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. McCormick, Herbert street, wore a frock of white sequin net over silk taffetas.

Miss Marjorie O’Rourke, only daughter of Mr and Mrs M. O’Rourke, Roslyn Bush, chose a frock of ivory net. The full skirt was trimmed with rucked frills and a shell pink velvet sash trimmed the waistline. Miss Winifred Douglas, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Douglas, Ermedale, wore a frock of embossed suede with a fully flared skirt. The bodice was trimmed with a Peter Pan collar and the short puffed sleeves were pleated. Miss Joan Murfitt, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs M. J. Murfltt, Tweed street, wore a frock of white silk organdie. The yoke and skirt were trimmed with pin tucks and lace insertions.

Miss Betty Grace, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Grace, Spey street, chose a frock of white silk marquisette. The basque bodice had full, puffed sleeves and the full skirt was trimmed with bands of shirred ruffles. Miss Frances Scully, elder daughter of Mrs E. C. Scully, Ythan street, chose a frock or white taffetas. The softly draped bodice had a heart-shaped neckline and the full skirt fell into graceful folds. Miss Nola Wallis, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wallis, Otautau, wore a frock of windswept moracain. The rucked bodice had a heart-shaped neckline and tucked sleeves.

Miss Winifred Meffin, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. Meffin, O'Hara street, wore a cream patterned voile over cream taffetas. The yoke was trimmed with pin tucks and the bodice was gathered to a pin tucked waist. Miss Zita Deegan, daughter of Mrs Jolm Deegan, Otautau, chose a frock of American sheer. The fitting bodice had a heartshaped neckline and the skirt was fully flared.
