A further military service ballot will be held almost immediately, according to an announcement by the Minister of National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) today and the names of the men called up will be gazetted on June 24 This ballot will contain the names of men 32, 33 and 34 years of age with children, together with the inflow into the classes previously called up. On this occasion, - said Mr Semple, the men will be called up for general military service that is, although they are required for territorial service, they will also be deemed to be liable for service outside New Zealand without participating in a further ballot. In view of tire serious war situation in the South Pacific which may necessitate at any moment the transference of armed forces to any threatened point overseas, the War Cabinet has decided that all future ballots will be for general military service. An amendment to the regulations is being made providing for all men eligible for overseas service (21 to 40 years) who have been previously called up for territorials and all volunteer territorials will be automatically deemed to be liable for overseas service.
