MR PETER DAWSON’S TOUR

INVERCARGILL AGAINST EXCLUSION ' An emphatic protest against the exclusion of Invercargill from the itinerary arranged for Mr Peter Dawson, the well-known singer, during his present tour of New Zealand has been made to the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr G. A. Hayden, and to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. Parry, by the executive of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council. The decision to make the protest was reached at a meeting of the executive yesterday morning. Representations were later made by Mr P. L. Hodge, on behalf of the executive, to Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., who forwarded a telegram to the Prime Minister. Later in the day a telegram was received from Mr Fraser stating that he understood the present arrangements with Mr Dawson covered the four main centres only. He would refer the request to the Minister of Broadcasting for consideration should it be possible to extend the itinerary later.
