WINTER SHOW STOCK SOLD

(Special) DUNEDIN, June 1. At a sale of Winter Show stock today there was a large gathering of farmers and a good circle of buyers. The quality of the fat bullocks was above the usual standard of fat cattle in this section. The sale began with a bullock exhibited by Mr J. Young (Allanton), this being the guessing competition bullock. Bidding was spirited, butchers competing freely, and the bullock realized £27/10/-, top price for the sale. Mr R. J. Telfer (Paretai) obtained £26 and £25 for two quality bullocks, these being first and second in their class. Mr W. Lindsay (Allanton) obtained £24/5/- for his bullock, and Mr J. C. Renton (Momona) secured £l5/10/for a heifer. Other bullocks made from £l7 to £23/10/-, and heifers brought from £lO to £l3/10/-. The quality of the fat sheep,hardly compared favourably with that of former years, but included a number of pens of choice quality. Mr D. B. Craighead (Middlemarch) secured top price (£2/14/-) for a pen of crossbred wethers. Mr P. R. H. Clarke (Gimmerburn) gained top price for halfbred wethers at £2/1/-. Prices for other classes ranged from 37/- to 42/-. Fat lambs were also below the usual standard, the top price being 40/secured by Messrs McLeod Bros. (Gimmerbum). Prices generally ranged from 34/- to 38/-.
