NEW ZEALANDERS SURVIVE BOMBING

(Special Correspondent, N.Z.P-A.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 30. Several New Zealanders were survivors of a ship the Germans bombed in Arctic regions. They include AbleSeamen H. T. Mace, J. T. Mitchell, P. G. Milliner and B. Wallace (Auckland), K. Lipanovic, H. Mollard (North Auckland), B. S. Heal, J. A. Livingstone (Wellington), J. M. Fraser, A. R. Pritchard, W. M. Carson (Dunedin), K. Cochrane and J. Kierman (Christchurch), Hannan (Oamaru), H. D. Moss (New Plymouth) and E. H. G. Lassen (Nelson). During their return to England they helped to remove ice from the decks. It is estimated that the ship once had 60 tons of ice on the decks and upper works. Sometimes the sea was warmer than the air, resulting in perpetual steaming. The destroyers which rescued the crew steamed up like taxis.
