WAIPIATA SANATORIUM COMMITTEE

In his report to the monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, the medical superintendent, Dr A. Kidd, said that during April 36 patients had been admitted, 21 were discharged and 133 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the sanatorium five patients from Southland, two from South Otago and one from Ashburton, a total of eight. The secretary submitted his annual report for the year ended March 31, the statistics of the sanatorium being as follows (the previous year’s figures shown in parentheses) Average number of occupied beds a day, 128.4 (134.1); average cost an occupied bed for the year, £166.7 (£151.4); The increased cost was accounted for by additional stocks of provisions in hand at March 31. Tlie secretary reported that on May 26 the associated boards had patients in the institution as follows Southland 68, South Canterbury 27, Ashburton 9, Waitaki 9, South Otago 13, Vincent 4, Maniototo 3—a total of 133. Since the previous meeting eight patients from three hospital districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 10 patients from four districts. The secretary submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments for April, showing that on April 30 there was a credit balance of £11,040/15/3.
