MORE BEEF KILLED IN SOUTHLAND
RUSH OF SUPPLIES TO FREEZING WORKS Considerable quantities of cattle have been drafted to the Makarewa and Mataura freezing works for slaughtering, and to meet the rush of stock the company has arranged for the beef hntrhn-s to work next Monday, which would normally be observed as a holiday. 'ihe quantities oi lambs and sheep offering are falling steadily and butchers engaged in slaughtering them will not work on Monday. A number of northern freezing works are not accepting cattle this season and much beef has consequently been diverted to Southland. The killings to date are about double those to the same date last year and it is expected that killings will continue steadily until the end of June.
