NEED FOR INCREASED POPULATION
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 29. That New Zealand should visualize as a post-war objective an increase in population to perhaps 5,000,000 in, say, 10 years through the develonment and settlement of new land was suggested by a Rotorua delegate, Mr K. S. Cox, at the Auckland provincial conference of the Farmers’ Union. A remit suggested that the Government be urged to reorganize the Lands Department and place selected land under the influence of local committees. The conference approved the principles of the remit, which is to be submitted to the Government.
