Sporting DUNEDIN WINTER MEETING

CHANGED DATES FOR ENTRIES Another change of dates in the nominations, handicaps and acceptances days foLthe Dunedin winter meeting has been announced. Nominations will close on Tuesday, June 2, handicaps will be declared on Tuesday, June 9, and acceptances will close on Monday, June 15, at 5 o’clock. Tidewaiter Tidewaiter has made a fair impression since being put to steeplechasing and sh°u* d not be without a chance if he contests the Wanganui Steeplechase. Lamboum With recent racing to advance him in condition. Lamboum ought to be very hard to dispose of in the Connolly Handicap, the open mile and a-quarter at the Wanganui meeting. Hokumai - , Hokumai is a useful sort engaged in the Duke of Gloucester Cup. He rarely falls to •run well in this class of race.

Minority , . Minority collided with a motor-car and injured himself at Hawera, and is not likely to race again for some time.

Bonny Spec Bonny Spec, a good trotter in her day, will have two of her progeny racing in the Longbeach Handicap at Ashburton on Monday. These are Addimus, a four-year-old bay gelding by Maxegin, and Royal Spec, a six-year-old bay mare by Royal Silk.

Ruling Star Out . A winter steeplechasing campaign had been mapped out for Ruling Star, but following his bad display and flight bleeding at Hawera he has been sent back to Masterton and arrangements which had been made to take him north have been cancelled.

Hinepo Following her disappointing form at Ashburton and Oamaru, M. McAulay has abandoned the idea of sending Hinepo to the Wanganui meeting. Instead, she has joined Sir Gundi and Stabilize in a spell. Pekoe . Pekoe, topweight in the Duke of Gloucester Cup, contested the open mile and aquarter at Waverley. He made a good deal of the early running, travelling very freely. Apparently he is fairly forward and should be able to give a creditable account of himself in the amateur riders’ event.

Foxiana _ . One of the best prospects in the Wanganui Steeplechase should be Foxiana, runner-up to Ruling Star in the Waverley Steeplechase. In the Waverley race, run over two miles, Foxiana carried 11.10. At Wanganui, with half a mile further to run, he will have 11.2.

Cherry Plum , _ . Cherry Plum was plugging along in fourth place in the Egmont steeplechase, and, though he was a long way behind me winner, he should improve sufficiently to be dangerous in the weaker field which will contest the Wanganui Steeplechase tms week.

Millie Wrack , Millie Wrack, a maiden trotter engaged at Ashburton, is a four-year-old black mare by Wrack from Lady Chenault, therefore a half-sister to Sir Tony and Helen Scott. This is the same family that produced Marlene, Acron, and Taxpayer. Sea Max , , .. The Southland trotter Sea Max has started eight times this season. She was unplaced in her first start, and since then she has not been out of the money, winning two races and being second on three occasions, and twice in third place. She has earned £2BO. All her races have been in Southland. Northern Double To be decided on Saturday, the Auckland Racing Club’s jumping "classics” have been recognized as such for many years, writes Sir Modred. The Great Northern Hurdle Race was established in 1892, while the Great Northern Steeplechase dates back to 1885. The Canterbury Jockey Clubs corresponding events are of more ancient origin as the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase was inaugurated as far back as 1875, while the New Zealand Grand National Hurdle Race was first run in 1890. Hitherto the Northerns were decided on separate days, but circumstances call for both to be decided on Saturday, .which means that a jumper can hardly win the two races in the same season—in bygone years good horses could and did account for the double. _ _ \ BASKETBALL DRAW Following is the draw for basketball matches to be played on Saturday: First Grade: Court 5, 2.45 p.m., Ke y Nurses v.
