FOWL WHEAT IN OVER SUPPLY

HEAVY OFFERINGS OF OATS Very few samples of wheat have been offered during the week. One or two lines have been accepted as milling quantity because of their having been stacked and having improved in condition. Fowl wheat is in over-supply. There have been heavy offerings of oats with the result that millers and merchants have not been in a position to cope with the deliveries. Any growers able to hold back their offerings for a fortnight or more will help the position. Milling contracts have been accepted at 3/6 a bushel, but it is difficult to get more than 3/3 for free oats. Export business in white clover continues, but there does not appear to be the volume transacted that there was earlier. Merchants have been busy dressing lines on account of growers. The market remains firm. The browntop market is firm. Sales have been made at 2/6 to growers for certified lines, machine dressed. Contractors and farmers are still harvesting, but little seed remains in the crop. It will not be long before some areas will have to be abandoned. FRUIT AND VEGETABLE

Supplies of tomatoes are practically finished for the season. Those that are coming to hand are lacking in colour. Prices range from 6d to 9d per lb. A limited supply of Australian lemons has been received and distributed to retailers. Oranges are unobtainable. A shipment of bananas arrived last week.

Apples and pears of the following varieties are in good supply: Apples, Delicious, Jonathans, Cleopatras, Sturmers and cookers; pears, Winter Neillis, Winter Cole, and cookers. The demand Is good. The vegetable market is erratic. Cabbages, cauliflowers, lettuce, parsnips, carrots and swede turnips are in fair supply at ruling rates, and pumpkins and marrows are also available.
