HARD FIGHTING NEAR KHARKOV
NAZI DRIVE IN SOUTH (United Press Association —Telegraph Copyright) (Rec. 1.25 a.m.) LONDON, May 27. The battle for Kharkov, now in its third week, is raging with unabated ferocity. Marshal Simeon Timoshenko’s forces have met the hard core of German resistance before the great industrial city and the Germans are staking everything on preventing a Russian break-through. Seventy-five miles south of Kharkov the “Battle of the Bulge” is being fought with even greater fury. Masses of equipment dominate the fighting, but the Russians are resisting valiantly. The Soviet Air Force is more than holding its own and cavalry and guerrillas are giving effective Support to the ground forces in resisting FieldMarshal von Bock’s heavy drive.
