BASIS OF PAYMENT FOR WHEAT

(PA) WELLINGTON, May 27. In a statement tonight the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Supply, said that during his recent tour of the wheatgrowing areas representations were made to him about the method of payment adopted by the Wheat Committee. It had been the custom of the committee to reserve 3d a bushel of the buying price for deferred payment at the end of the year. Thus, where the guaranteed price was 5/9 March basis, the payment of 5/6 March basis was made at the time the farmer sold his wheat, the balance of 3d being deferred until December. The Minister said he had undertaken to have the matter reconsidered by the Wheat Committee, and as a result payment of the full amount due would be made at the time of purchase. Instructions had been sent out to brokers advising that the new method of payment would operate as from June 1.
