MOTORISTS WARNED
HEADLIGHT RESTRICTIONS “I will give you the benefit of a lack of local knowledge, but that excuse will not always work,” said Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.,‘ in the Invercargill Magistrate’s Court yesterday when dealing with the case of William Joyce, who was charged with failing to comply with the headlight restrictions on the ■- Invercargill-BlufE highway. "So far we have not had many cases of this sort here” the Magistrate added, “but if motorists do not obey the regulation I shall inflict very heavy penalties.” Joyce, who pleaded guilty, was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs. Joyce said he was a visitor to Invercargill and had not been on the road before. He had had his lights dipped, but when he saw two other motor-cars pass him with their lights full on he thought it could not be a headlight restriction area and so he put his lights bn. Other motorists who were charged with a similar offence on the same road were dealt with as follows:—Edgar Baker fined £1 10/- with 10/- costs; Thomas Cecil Duncan, £l/10/- with 10/- costs; Truesdale Russell Beck, £1 with 10/- costs.
