PROTEST STRIKE IN PALESTINE

LOSS OF JEWISH REFUGEE SHIP (Rec. 5.30 p.m.) JERUSALEM, Feb. 28. At the instructions of the Jewish National Council all Palestinian Jews carried out a 12-hour strike as a protest against the refusal to allow the entry of the Strouma refugees. The political committee of the Zionist Federation of Britain passed a resolution associating itself with a statement of the Jewish Agency in Palestine expressing grief and indignation. The tragedy had taken place, it was alleged, because of the refusal of the Palestine Administration to allow these victims of Nazi terror in Rumania to enter their national home. The Strouma, which was carrying 750 Jewish refugees from Rumania, sank north of the Bosphorus. Only 10 people were saved from the wreck; The refugees were returning to Constanta after being refused permission to land in Palestine.
