SUNSPOT CAUSES STORM

(Rec. 9.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 1. A magnetic storm, apparently caused by a giant sunspot, disrupted shortwave radio-telephone communications between the United States and Europe. San Francisco reported that trans-Paciflc communications had likewise suffered, spasmodic interruptions causing traffic delays. Cables, telegraph and domestic telephone circuits were not affected. A Brooklyn astronomer succeeded in photographing the sunspot, which is visible to the naked eye. The phenomenon is expected to produce the aurora borealis.
