PHILIPPINE DEFENDERS HOLD GAINS
(Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 28. A War Department communique states that fighting has lessened in the Batan area, with operations limited to minor skirmishes. General MacArthur’s troops are holding the recently captured advanced positions, extending from slightly north of Abucay across Batan Peninsula to a point on the China Sea, between Bagac and Moron. The Japanese arc still holding their main battle positions.
