MESSENGER SERVICE FOR E.P.S.

RECRUITMENT OF BOYS ARRANGED The existing arrangements for messengers at E.P.S. wardens’ posts in Invercargill had proved unsatisfactory and it had been decided that these would be discontinued and steps taken to create a more reliable service, stated the chief controller (Mr H. J. Macalister) yesterday. Wardens in each area had been asked to recruit as messengers boys between the ages of 14 to 17 (inclusive). Messengers so recruited would be attached to the wardens’ post in the area in which they lived so that, in the event of an emergency, they would have as short a distance as possible to go. All boys between these ages, who are available for this service, are asked to hand in their names as early as possible to one of the wardens in the area in which they live. This includes Boy Scouts in this age group. Other arrangements will be made to utilize the

services of younger Boy Scouts. This fresh arrangement does not affect the arrangements already made for the attendance of members of the W.W.S.A. cycle corps at wardens’ posts.
