SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS Mr W. McEwan, Elies road, has received advice that his son, Private Frank H. McEwan, who was wounded in the Libyan campaign, is seriously ill. Private McEwan was severely wounded in a shoulder and was a prisoner of war for several days before he was treated in a British hospital. He was a prominent footballer and in 1939 was a member of the Southland Rugby team which toured New Zealand. Mr and Mrs T. Rae, 72 Margaret street, have received word from their son, Private T. C. Rae, that he is well. Private Rae is a prisoner of war. Mr and Mrs H. E. Bacon, of Waikaka, and formerly of Mandeville road, Gore, have received advice that their son, Private Roger Bacon, who is with the New Zealand forces in the Middle East, has been taken off the seriously ill list. Mr and Mrs C. Veint, Nelson street, have received advice that their son, Private J. A. S. Veint, has been discharged from hospital. The following soldiers have been reported to be safe and well: Private W. H. Payne, son of Mr and Mrs C. J. H. Payne, Limehills; Quartermaster-Sergeant R. Jenkins, son of Mrs W. Jenkins; Regimental Sergeant-Major John Seal; Private Victor McKee, son of Mr A. McKee, Woodlands; Gunner Earl Cantrick, son of Mrs Peterson, Bluff.

Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs J. K. Stevenson, Herbert street, that their son, R. E. Stevenson, has been granted a commission as pilot officer in the R.N.Z.A.F. Pilot Officer Stevenson Is now stationed in Canada. AIR CASUALTIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 23.
