BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, presided over the following councillors at the monthly meeting of the Bluff Borough Council: Crs Budd, Boyd, Burke, Matheson, Metzger and Johnston.

A letter was received from the Progressive League asking the council to have the footpath to the cemetery attended to. It was decided to consider this under the works schedule.

Out of eight applicants for the position of junior typist, the number was reduced to two for interview. There were 11 applicants for the position of librarian, this number being reduced to two for interview. It was decided to call applications for an apprentice for the electrical department. The National Military Reserve in a letter to the council asked the residents of Bluff for the loan of any easy chairs which could be spared for the use of the local reserve. AU care would be taken of any chairs lent. Cr Boyd referred to the disconnecting of the street lights in Theodore street and said it was an unnecessary measure as they did not face the sea. It was decided to bring this matter to the notice of the engineer. A motion of syinpathy with Mr Te Koeti in the death of his father was passed. SALVAGE OPERATIONS The Marina returned from the Waikouaiti yesterday with another good cargo of steel billets.
