Mr and Mrs V. Barker, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Heath, Mataura Island, have returned to New Plymouth. Mr David N. Skinner has been appointed assistant master at the Wyndham District High School, but has been
granted leave of absence for the duration of the war, as he is at present serving overseas. During his absence Miss Moira B. Curran has been appointed to the position, which is a wartime one. ' Miss Doreen Milne, Christchurch, is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. E. Pedler, Ferry street. In the examination held recently by the automotive engineers for the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, Misses M. Richardson and B. Louden were successful. The Rev. Dr I. W. Fraser and Mrs Fraser left Wyndham on Monday for their new home in Christchurch. Before their departure Mrs Fraser was
the recipient of a small gift from the members of the Girls’ Auxiliary. There was only a small attendance at a general meeting of members of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary. Mrs I. W. Fraser presided. A discussion took place about a field day which it is proposed to hold in co-operation with the Home Guard on February 14 or some other suitable date. Demonstrations of all branches of the work will be given and an opportunity given the public of seeing the kind of work being done. Instructions were : eceived for the making of camouflage nets. A demonstration will be arranged and it is hoped that many will be able to assist. The resignations of Mrs Fraser from
the position of president and of Mrs E. S. Macfarlane from the position of secretary were received with regret Mrs D. Hopkins spoke of the work done by these two women in organizing the auxiliary. An enjoyable evening was spent when members of the Edendale Catholic Youth Movement and friends assembled to bid farewell to one of their associates, Mr Eric Forde. The evening was spent in dancing and items, which were contributed by Misses M. Caldwell, R. Waddell and E. Phelan and Mr D. Lynch. The Rev. Father McKay presented the guest of the evening with a gift in appreciation of his services.
