WATERFRONT WORK
COMMISSION TO REVIEW SYSTEM (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 22. The Minister of Labour, tire Hon. P. C. Webb, announced today that the Government had requested the Waterfront Commission to review the whole of the operations of the waterfront and report at the earliest date on the working of the co-operative contract system. If the present system of co-operative contracting was not the best it should be replaced by something that would give better results because the waterfront, like the workshop, was one of the frontline trenches of the nation’s war effort. Any slackening or any stoppage, either by employer or employee, was an act of treachery to the country.
