Hewton will be one of the seven assessors appointed to represent the employers in the passenger transport drivers’ dispute which comes before the Conciliation Council in Wellington on January 27. In addition to lecturing duties he will work on ergot research.

Appreciation of the work of Major C. G. Lee, of the Salvation Army, on the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee was expressed at a meeting of the committee last night. It was agreed to ask Major Martin Brown, the new Salvation Army officer at Invercargill to take Major Lee’s place on the committee. Mr W. F. L. Ward has been reappointed acting Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand for a term of three months from February 2.—P.A. Private Richard Wixon, son of Mr John Wixon and the late Mrs Wixon, of Colac Bay, and late of the Neck, Stewart Island, who has been awarded the Military Medal, was bom at Colac Bay and attended the local school. He was employed at the Ocean Beach freezing works for two seasons and later worked as a fisherman. He was a keen Rugby player and was a singer of ability.
