WEDNESDAY (Before Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.) For refusing to submit to medical treatment deemed necessary under the National Service Regulations, William Taylor Ferguson, a lorry driver, of Ohai (Mr G. C. Cruickshank) was convicted and fined £l/10/-, costs 10/-. Senior Sergeant Kelly stated that the accused was a member of the armed forces and had refused to report at the Southland Hospital for an operation. He had undergone the operation later, however.

Francis John Robert McDowall pleaded guilty by letter to failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right. He was fined £2, with costs 12/-.

Kenneth Louis Forrest was fined 10/-, with 12/- costs, for having no warrant of fitness for a motor-car.

For a similar offence Donald Malcolm | Findlay was fined £l, with costs 10/-. I Donald Malcolm Findlay (Mr J. C. Prain) pleaded guilty to misleading a traffic inspector. He was fined £5, with costs 10/-. Charged with aiding and abetting Findlay, Brian Joseph Enwright was fined £4, with costs 12/-. For allowing sawdust to flow in a river the Hokonui Sawmilling Company was fined £lO, with costs 10/-. For failing to notify the inspector of intention to begin building work the Love Construction Company, Ltd., was fined £l, with costs 10/-. For permitting scaffolding to be used which was not in compliance with the regulations the same company was fined £4, with costs 10/-.

Colin Moore Davis and Frank Thomas Milburn were convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/- for hauling an unlicensed trailer.

John Crow was fined 10/-, with 12/— costs, for riding a bicycle after darkness without a light. Charged with failing to give way to traffic on his right, Graham Murrell, a taxi driver, pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, in fining Murrell 30/- with 10/- costs, said he was satisfied from the evidence that Murrell should have given way.
