Borthwick, who has been reported missing, is the elder son of Mr and Mrs J. C. Borthwick, Tomes road, Christchurch. Sergeant Borthwick, who was among the first to volunteer in the Gore district, was on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Gore, at the time of his enlistment. He j was a good r.ll-round cricketer and represented Eastern Southland on a j

number of occasions. He was also a keen member of the Gore Golf Club and the Gore Badminton Club. Sergeant Borthwick took part in the Greek, Crete and Libyan campaigns.
