RACING AND TROTTING

CERTISSIMUS AT DUNEDIN Certissimus, champion straight-out trotter, who was missing from the Metropolitan meeting at Addington, will b the main attraction at the trots during the week-end. He is orr the front of the Dominion Handicap, and although he will be opposed by some smart and experienced trotters he is almost certain to carry the confidence of the public. Dark Hazard Dark Hazard, the Winton-owned pacer-trotter, will revert to the pacing gait in races at Forbury Park on Saturday. He is a versatile performer and appears to be at home in either gait. He won races as a pacer and took p high ranking among the straight-out trotters. Off the front in both the King George Handicap (two miles), and the Churchill Handicap (one mile and aquarter) on Saturday, he may shape well. Grilse The two-year-old filly Grilse has not been severely taxed since she won the Welcome Stakes. She will not be required to do much racing this season, but it is hoped to have her at I rentham in January for her next outing. Cutts’s Team

H. and A. Cutts probably will do their holiday racing in the North Island, the present intention being to patronize the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings. The team may be made up of Wild Talk, Wild Fox, Court Dress, and a two-year-old. Katene

Katene, winner of the R. T. Reid Memorial Handicap at the Waikato trots on Saturday, was raced in the south by the Rolton Brothers (Winton). Two seasons ago he was sold to Mrs L. Ebbett, a North Island owner, and in her colours he won the New Year Handicap at the Auckland meeting last season. Katene was second to Dusky Sound in the 1939 Invercargill Trotting Cup and was third in the Winton Trotting Cup. He is now owned by Messrs E. Keller and M .Brandt, and has won £445 for them this season. By Great Bingen from Lady Marvin, he is now eight years old and he has qualified for the Auckland Trotting Cup. Bronze Eagle Bronze Eagle often has shown ability in races which would give him a place among the top-notchers of New Zealand. He is a reliable type and at Forbury on Saturday he may be expected to put up a good performance from 12 yards behind in the King George Handicap. He won the Queen Mary Handicap in August in 4min 24sec, and at Addington this month he finished third to Springfield Globe and Special Edition in 4min 18 3-ssec. In that race he began from 12yds behind and gave Special Edition 12 yards start. They will meet on even terms at Forbury Park. Walter Moore Walter Moore will be on hand at Forbury Park. He raced well without success at the New Zealand Cup meeting, but got some of the place money. At his best Walter Moore can go a fast mile and a-quarter and off the front in the Churchill Handicap on Saturday he may be one of the fancied division. i Gold Bar Wins Match Race I

Gold Bar and Springfield Globe were matched in a special race over a mile at a charity meeting at New Brighton on Saturday. Gold Bar won by a neck in 2min 10 2-ssec.

Atreus, one of the few horses by Beau Pere at the New Zealand Cup meeting, has had his share of minor troubles, and since his two-year-old days, when he won at his first start, the Riccarton trainer, J. C. Tomkinson, has not had a straight run with him until this season. At the Wellington meeting Atreus was unlucky to miss a winning turn, and his Apprentices and Seymour Handicaps double was well earned. He is a four-year-old brown gelding from Helen Hunt, a Hunting Song mare, and was bred by his Christchurch owner, Mr W. A. White, who can look forward to a good run in the higher grade with him. Wairio Trotting Handicaps Handicaps for the Wairio trots on December 6 are due tomorrow. Acceptances close on Monday at 8 p.m. Josedalc Grattan Josedale Grattan, champion pacer in New Zealand at the present time, will make an attempt to lower Van Derby’s track record of 2min 0 2-ssec during the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on December 27, 30 and 31. Josedale Grattan will have to go so close to" two minutes to lower the record that he may succeed in becoming the second horse in the Southern Hemisphere to enter the two-minute list. Lawn Derby, Imin 59 2-ssec, is the other. Gore Trots Nominations for the Gore trots on December 26 close on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The handicaps will appear on Saturday, December 13.
