QUEEN’S PARK CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING OF SEASON The official closing of the whiter golf season was held at Queen’s Park on. Saturday. The course was a little soft, but otherwise conditions were good. During the afternoon a number of competitions was held, after which the president, Mr O. G. Gilmour, presented the trophies for the season. Mr Gilmour particularly thanked the members of the women’s club for, turning out m such large numbers and making the day an unqualified success. As a result of the excellent support given the soldiers’ parcel fund would benefit by approximately £9. The winners of the various competitions were: Canadian mixed foursomes, Mrs G. Westerby and A. Carter; long driving, women, Mrs E. Salisbury, men, J. S. Lindsay; putting competition, women, Mrs D. Stalker, men, A. Carter; approach and putting competition, women, Mrs F. J. Dwyer, men, A. R. Cullen; pitching into the bucket, women, Miss J. McKenzie, men, E. H. Ball. A Stableford Canadian was also held during the week-end and attracted a large field. Tlie leading scores were: „ A Grade—E. R. Barnett, 27-8-35; G. A. Hughes, 25-9-34; O. G. Gilmour, 29-5-34. B Grade—D. McLennan, 18-15-33; J. Graham, 16-17-33; G. Nicholson, 18-14-32. McLennan won on the count back over 12 holes from Graham.

INVERCARGILL CLUB With a round of 73, B. J. Smith won an unofficial Stableford match at the Otatara golf links on Saturday. Conditions were ideal, the best for many Saturdays, although the course was soft in parts after last week’s heavy rain. Placing on the fairways was reintroduced. Smith was out in bogey figures, including s’s at the seventh and ninth, and came back in one under. The best Stableford scores were:—Smith, 37-scr-37; A. J. Skjellerup, 29-5-34; N. Earl, 28-6-34; J. D. Strettell, 29-3-32; A. Umbers, 20-12-32. A second stableford match was won by G. Hanan, who had a fine round of 76, his stableford score being 35-4-39.
