PIANO RECITAL BY LLOYD POWELL

TREAT FOR INVERCARGILL AUDIENCE Invercargill music lovers, teachers and students will have a unique opportunity to hear a distinguished English pianist in a recital sponsored by the ’ Music Section of the University Association at the Southland Women’s Club rooms on Tuesday, December 2. The pianist is Mr Lloyd Powell, examiner for the Royal Schools of Music. He has given a number of recitals in northern centres and has received the highest encomiums from music lovers on the high standard of his performances. The Otago Daily Times stated: “Nothing could have been more satisfying than the performance of this modest Englishman, whose cultured playing was a joy right through the recital. Exquisite tone, rich in variety and delicate shadings, the product of a fine technique, was wedded to a sensitive imagination, accuracy and power.” Like other visiting examiners who are essentially fine musicians, Mi’ Powell has shown an originality in his selection of programmes. Leaving the beaten track, he has played many exquisite works which the celebrity pianists are inclined to neglect during recitals in New Zealand.
