TENNIS ASSOCIATION’S MEETING At a meeting of the Waiau Tennis Association, Mr J. A. Forde presided over delegates from Papatotara, Clifden, Excelsior, Orepuki and Pahia Clubs. It was decided to cancel matches when Home Guard parades are to be held on Saturday afternoons. Furthermore club fixtures will not be played while petrol licences are withdrawn

because of the travelling difficulties. The annual handicap doubles and championship singles tournaments will be played at a date to be fixed by the sub-committee appointed to control them, the doubles at Orepuki and the singles on the Excelsior courts. 3 The singles tournament for Waiau I primary school children is to be held ■ on the Excelsior courts on Saturday, t November 29, and will be played in two grades. Matches will commence > at 9.30 a.m. and entries are to be in s the secretary’s hands by Wednesday, ■ November 26. Teachers or others forl warding entries are asked to grade their i entrants. If possible a return game

with Otautau will be arranged on the lines of last year’s match. After the meeting, a presentation of a fruit-bowl was made to Miss Edith McPherson, Pahia, who was secretary during the first six years of the association’s functioning and whose resignation was accepted at the last annual meeting. Members paid tribute to her work especially in the initial years and the keen spirit with which she had attended to all matters concerning tennis in the district. Even while she was unable to take part in matches she had not lost interest and it was pleasing that she was not going to resign from the association. Those who spoke

were Messrs Forde, G. Spears, I. Perry, R. Pickering, B. Collie and Miss B. McLeod. Miss McPherson replied. HOME GUARD PARADE At the weekly parade of the Tuatapere Home Guard, lectures in first aid, bandaging and stretcher work were resumed under the direction of Dr E. M. Elder. A class of V.A.D.’s was also present to assist. Next week all emits of B Company will parade under the company commander, Mr R. McKenzie, at the saleyards. A supply of pamphlets on section work and weapons has been received by the quartermaster,

and these will be divided among the units of the battalion. NATIONAL SAVINGS The National Savings ball to show the amount of receipts each week is now in position at the Tuatapere Post Office. The weekly quota for the post office is £69 which has been exceeded a number of times in recent weeks.
